Close & Clean — version 2.1

What’s New

Less than a week after the major v.2 update, here is the first bug-fix release. Apologies for the bugs I introduced in the last edition, they should be fixed now.

Enhancements and Fixes

🛠 Fixed Bugs for Better Reliability

  1. Windows Compatibility Issue Resolved:
    • I believe I addressed the bug where the “Do Not Close Chrome” option was not being respected on specific Windows OS/Chrome combinations. It should now keep the browser open after cleaning (at least it works in my test here on both Windows and Mac)
  2. Improved Settings Responsiveness:
    • Fixed an issue where changes to extension options were not always applied, especially on the first start.

🆕 New Features

  1. “Populate Recent” Option Added:
    • I found that, for some reason, Chrome retains a list of recent tabs even after clearing history. To address this, I’ve introduced the “Populate Recent” option on the settings page. This feature scrambles the recent tabs list for added privacy by opening random chrome pages after closing tabs. Note: This behavior appears to be related to Chrome’s internal history handling, not the extension itself but since I want to maximize privacy, this feature could be of use.
  2. UI Enhancements:
    • Fixed small glitches in the user interface for a smoother experience.

Planned Features:

  • Add Cleanup for “serviceWorkers”:
Extend the cleaner to target service worker files.
  • Remove “pluginsData”:
Since Flash is no longer in use (and it was the only “plugin”), this option may be removed.
  • Add Cleanup for “storageCache”:
Expand the cleaning capabilities to include storage cache.

Usability Improvements:

  • Clickable Help Icons:
Add info icons with links to detailed explanations for each setting on the options page.
  • Dark Mode Support:
Introduce a dark mode for users who prefer it.
  • Onboarding Wizard:
Develop a friendly wizard to guide users through the initial setup process after installation.

I’m committed to improve Close & Clean in the coming releases and will try to make regular monthly updates and bug fixes based on your feedback. Thank you for your support! Stay clean 😉
