Control your browsing history. Disable and enable history recording when you decide.
This extension let’s you disable browsing history and surf without leaving records. With one single click. Naturally, you can enable history again when you need it. With just another single click 🙂
When installed it will add a simple on/off button to the browser’s toolbar.
Click on it to pause history recording. Click again to resume.
When browsing history is disabled, a red “X” will be added to the toolbar button. This way you’ll always know if history is currently enabled or disabled.
This extension will only disable history recording, but it doesn’t deal with cookies, local storage, browser cache etc. In other words — all web sites will work as always, except that your visits will not be recorded in the browser’s history.
Where to Get It?
History On/Off is available for Google Chrome™, Microsoft Edge and Opera™ browsers.
After installing the History On/Off button, look for the newly installed icon:
Click on it to disable history recording. Click again to resume.

Important Notes:
- This extension will only disable browsing history (and if you set it in the options — the downloads history) but it doesn’t deal with cookies, local storage, browser cache etc. In other words — all web sites will work as always, except that your visits will not be recorded in browser’s history
- There are two simple options you may wish to check on the “options” page (right-click on the toolbar icon and select “Options”). You can tell the extension to clear downloads history too (by default it will disable only the browsing history) and to remove “History On/Off” item from the context menu). Be aware that if you disable downloads history too, only the history record (from the “Downloads” page) will be removed, not the actual file downloaded.
- Please, remember that this extension will disable only the browser’s history. It will not stop external tracking (for example, google search history). If you want to disable google search history — go to www.google.com/history
Please, note that when history is paused, your browser’s back/forward buttons will stop working. Chromium browsers (including this one) are using the history to navigate back and forward, and because we are disabling the history recording, they just can’t work as expected (no history available for the back/forward buttons to know the prev./next page)
